Dj Socalled, known in some circles as Dolgini, the wonderboychik of neo-Yiddish music, posted this in Youtube. The backing track is none other than Puma, the kontra player from Di Naye K. After working with us on our new and still unreleased third CD, Josh took Puma into the studio to record some rythym tracks played on the Transylvanian kontra, a viola rebuilt with a flattened bridge and three strings in order to play full bowed chords. Kontra is used in Northern Romania by traditional Gypsy village string bands, but it has never sounded like this!
