No one stateside will ship there due to distance, uncertainty about temperatures, etc. Could anyone tell me the name of any grow kit sellers in Hungary? I'd love to get my friend started growing her own mushrooms. Thank you for your time, & best wishes!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08437809997341222671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21879466.post-33394884462765705772016-01-25T10:43:50.204-05:002016-01-25T10:43:50.204-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09653571689033734456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21879466.post-14681073600542961502016-01-25T10:39:53.641-05:002016-01-25T10:39:53.641-05:00The morels you have pictured are not true yellows....The morels you have pictured are not true yellows. Those are actually false morels from what I can see.
Jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09653571689033734456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21879466.post-24623849093387842542013-06-13T11:15:55.988-04:002013-06-13T11:15:55.988-04:00These are one of the species of yellow morels, and...These are one of the species of yellow morels, and the really pricey varieties are black (far denser in both texture and taste). We're just at a tail end of the morel season in here in the Wasatch Mountains, and I got just a handful of blackies among the bags and bags of lowly yellow morels. The supposedly-scary false-morel Gyromitra esculenta should come next; as I heard, the derox trick is to cook all kinds of morels with an open lid, as the toxic compounds go into the vapors.

The specific, and intense, morel flavor begs for some neutral diluent to soak in the flavors IMVHO. Traditionally we used young taters, but last year I experimented with adding fresh spinach, and this year I'm really happy with Oriental sweet potato thread (sort of an al dente spaghetti equivalent, but potently strong in adsorbing the sauces).

It was interesting to find the roots of Polish "kuczma" => Ukrainian / Russian "kuchma" BTW!

Oh, and lastly. We're heading to Budapest in two weeks. Staying in St Stephan's area. Any advice on farmer's markets location? We don't have any wild mushroom sellers on Hunyadi tér, and no good beef either, though it still has many other advantages. First comment, but I've enjoyed reading your blog for some time.
